Birch Harbor
About the Series
Welcome to Birch Harbor, Michigan, a windswept gem of a town on the shores of Lake Huron. While its gorgeous lakeside scenery makes it a popular vacation spot, Birch Harbor isn’t just a summer tourist trap.
Complete with charming ice cream parlors, family-owned bistros, and stunning vistas of serene water, Birch Harbor is the perfect place to raise a family…or tear one apart.
This series follows the Hannigan sisters—Kate, Amelia, Megan, and Clara—as they come to terms with a complicated family legacy, starting with House On the Harbor.
In life, Nora Hannigan was a force to be reckoned with. But things become even more complicated upon Nora’s death, when the family lawyer delivers shocking news that threatens to tear her four daughters apart.
Each of the sisters is fighting her own battle, but they must learn to work together in order to come to terms with the secrets of their past.
But in Birch Harbor, family mysteries are as deep as Lake Huron. Lighthouse On the Lake uncovers another mystery: the Hannigan sisters’ long-lost father. Each of the women is doing her best to move forward, but it’s next to impossible to focus on their future until they face their family history.
In Fireflies In the Field, new projects make it seems as though a happy ending is finally on the horizon. Megan and Kate are working on new business ventures, Amelia is resurrecting an old monument (and exploring a new relationship), and schoolteacher Clara is enjoying a much-needed summer break. But new confessions and revelations soon arise to threaten the calm waters of their lives.
In Cottage By the Creek, life finally seems to have settled down, but a crisis is once again on the horizon, as threatening as a summer storm. As tensions grow at the local high school, Megan’s daughter and Kate’s soon-to-be (hopefully) stepdaughter are swept into the tension.
With Bells On the Bay, the Hannigan sisters are finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Just one year after their mother’s death, their lives are starting to take shape and happiness feels possible. But as each of them take stock of the past year, they need to understand what it means to follow your heart.
Through all the ups and downs, family is a sure thing that holds the sisters together…even as it threatens to tear them apart. Will their mother’s secrets drown out other relationships, or is there room for romance?
The Birch Harbor series tackles the universal questions of legacy, generational secrets, and what it means to be a family, proving that “home” isn’t just a place, it’s a feeling.
More About the Series
Birch Harbor is a fictional town, but it’s based on real-life towns on the shores of the Great Lakes in Michigan. Growing up, my family would make the long trip from Tucson up to the “thumb” of Michigan to visit my aunt and uncle.
The change in landscape—from cacti to cherry trees—was so drastic that I nearly got whiplash! I reveled in the grass, lakes, and quaint small-town life that was so unlike Arizona. I wanted to capture that same feeling of peaceful nostalgia, which is what inspired me to bring the people of Birch Harbor to life.
